Truck tyre changer control panel joystick
Joystick with switch assembly for the control panel of a lorry tyre changer. This component is used to manually control the movement of selected machine components, such as the tool trolley, working arm or clamping system – depending on the configuration of the specific tyre changer.
In the documentation for Ravaglioli lorry tyre changers, the control lever operates on a ‘hold-to-run’ basis: the function is active only whilst the joystick is held in the selected direction. In this system, the joystick’s movement directions can control, amongst other things, the movement of the tool carriage and the raising and lowering of the self-clamping arm. When released, the joystick should return to the neutral position.

What to check before ordering
The appearance of the joystick alone does not guarantee compatibility with every Truck mounting bracket. Before installation, compare the number of contact blocks, terminal layout, mounting method, cable positioning and the dimensions of the component fitted into the panel. The photographs do not specify the voltage or electrical load capacity of the contacts; therefore, these parameters should not be selected ‘by eye’.
You must also check the operating logic of the existing component: whether control is via normally open contacts or whether it also uses normally closed contacts. Changing the terminal configuration may result in a change in the direction of movement or a failure of the stop function when the joystick is released.
Signs of wear during machine operation
- the component only begins to move after the lever has been moved sharply or moved sideways;
- when the joystick is released, the system does not stop immediately or stops with a delay;
- the same direction of movement is interrupted when the lever is moved further, even though the solenoid valve coil and power supply are functioning correctly;
- it becomes necessary to ‘search’ for the neutral position;
- movement is only possible in one direction, and the continuity test of the contacts does not change correctly when the lever is moved.
A worn joystick may result in a loss of control. If the contact remains closed after the lever is released, the solenoid valve may continue to receive a signal, and the arm or carriage may continue to move. Therefore, in the event of a fault involving return to the neutral position, one should not limit oneself to checking the direction of operation alone.
Installation and testing after replacement
After connecting the cables, check each direction separately, starting with no-load operation and observing the solenoid valves. In a momentary control system, movement should cease immediately upon releasing the joystick. Next, check that the movement to the left, right, up and down corresponds to the same direction as before the replacement.
The joystick’s bellows cover prevents dust, moisture and residues of assembly lubricant from entering the switch mechanism. A crack or loss of elasticity in the cover often precedes contact problems, particularly in panels exposed to tyre grease, water and road grime.
Important: do not base your selection solely on the name ‘Truck joystick’. Before ordering, compare the dimensions of 14 cm, 3.8 cm and 3 cm, the layout of the contact blocks and the terminal markings with the component currently fitted in your panel.

What cables do I need for my two-post lift?
Check the rope termination. If there are any markings on it, the total rope length is very often indicated as well, e.g., L8920. This means the rope length is 8.92 m.
Additionally, to correctly select the rope, you need to provide the following technical parameters:
- Rope diameter – measured in the middle section (e.g., 8 mm, 9 mm or 10 mm)
- Thread – diameter (e.g., M16)
- Thread – length – length of the threaded section (e.g., 14 cm)

- Find the nameplate on the device – it usually contains key information, such as:
