Control handle with valve – complete Type B for tyre changers
A complete control handle with a pneumatic valve, designed for tyre changers fitted with controls integrated into the handle. The handle allows the operator to control the machine’s mechanism without taking their hand off the work unit.
The handle is compatible with many tyre changers available on the market. When selecting a handle, do not rely solely on the name ‘Type B’ – before ordering, you must compare the mounting spacing, the position of the holes and the method of connecting the pneumatic hoses with those of the worn-out handle.
Important when selecting: a universal design does not guarantee compatibility with every tyre changer. The most common cause of incompatibility is a different mounting bracket spacing, a different mounting geometry, or hoses routed on the opposite side.

Where it is used and what it is used for
The handle is fitted to the control unit or the arm of the mounting machine. The integrated valve directs compressed air to the appropriate actuator, whilst the buttons allow the user to control the function assigned to a specific machine version, such as unlocking, moving or repositioning the arm.
In ATH-Heinl’s parts documentation, the complete handle with valve is listed as a separate assembly, and the valve is specified together with the spindle, guide, button and seal. This means that in the event of control issues, it is not always necessary to replace the entire handle; however, in the event of wear to the body, mounting or several components simultaneously, replacing the complete assembly minimises the risk of having to dismantle it again.
Signs of wear on the valve or handle
- the actuator only responds when the button is pressed firmly or off-centre;
- the arm’s movement is delayed, jerky or stops after the button is released;
- a constant hissing sound can be heard from around the handle once the system is connected;
- the function only works when the handle is in a specific position;
- the button does not return fully to its original position;
- the handle has noticeable play relative to its mounting, meaning that the pressure applied to the valve is not consistent.
A constant blow-through via a leaky valve increases the load on the air preparation system and may cause the compressor to cycle more frequently. Conversely, a valve that opens only partially restricts the flow to the actuator — the operator may then mistakenly assume that the problem lies with the cylinder, the manifold or the pressure regulator.
What to look out for when replacing
- compare the position of both mounting ends and the holes with the handle fitted to the machine;
- check that the pneumatic hoses are the correct length and are not kinked after the handle has been tightened;
- maintain the correct sequence of the hoses — swapping the connections may reverse the operation of the controlled function;
- after installation, check the operation of each button whilst the working unit is under a light load;
- check that, when the button is released, the actuator stops without any self-creep;
- once pressure is applied, check that the valve does not leak air in the rest position.
Do not press the button at an angle or use the handle as a grip for adjusting the arm. Lateral loading of the valve spindle accelerates wear on the guide and may cause symptoms resembling damage to the machine’s pneumatic system.
Application
The Type B valve handle is designed for repairing or restoring the control system in many models of tyre changers. Before purchasing, we recommend comparing the dimensions shown in the photograph with the component fitted to your machine, particularly the 15 cm spacing, the mounting dimensions and the 6 mm holes.

What cables do I need for my two-post lift?
Check the rope termination. If there are any markings on it, the total rope length is very often indicated as well, e.g., L8920. This means the rope length is 8.92 m.
Additionally, to correctly select the rope, you need to provide the following technical parameters:
- Rope diameter – measured in the middle section (e.g., 8 mm, 9 mm or 10 mm)
- Thread – diameter (e.g., M16)
- Thread – length – length of the threaded section (e.g., 14 cm)

What is my machine's model?
- Find the nameplate on the device – it usually contains key information, such as:
- Manufacturer
- Device model
- Year of manufacture
- Serial number
