Quick-release nuts for wheel balancers
A quick-release nut for a wheel balancer, also called a quick-clamp nut or wing nut, presses the wheel against the cone on the balancer shaft. Press the levers and slide it along the shaft thread instead of screwing it all the way, then clamp the wheel in a few moves.
This category contains nuts with 36×3, 38×3 and 40×3 mm threads (including 36×3 TYPE B and Premium 40×3), sets with an alloy rim adapter in 36×3 and 40×3 (nut, adapter and rubber cover), and the adapter and rubber adapter cover on their own.
How to choose a quick-release nut for a wheel balancer
The shaft thread decides:
- thread diameter – 36, 38 or 40 mm; measure the shaft thread with a caliper or read the marking on the old nut,
- thread pitch – all nuts in this category have a 3 mm pitch; measure the distance between neighbouring threads on the shaft, because a nut with a different pitch will not fit,
- alloy rims – for alloy wheels choose a set with the adapter and rubber cover, which protect the rim while clamping.
36, 38 and 40 mm nuts are not interchangeable. If the old nut skips on the thread or does not hold the clamp, the mechanism is worn: the wheel can shift on the shaft and the balancer will give a false reading.
Quick-release nut, cones and balancer shaft
The nut works together with the centring cones, which centre the wheel on the shaft axis. If the thread on the balancer shaft is damaged, even a new nut will not hold properly, so check the shaft as well.
