Rubber jack pads
Rubber jack pads fit on the saddle of a car jack, trolley jack or service jack. They sit between the saddle and the sill: they protect the sill and paint from crushing, and the groove in the rubber takes the pinch weld, so the car does not slip off the saddle.
This category contains round pads of 5 cm (4 cm high, 11 mm groove), 6.5 cm (2.5 cm high) and 12.5 cm (2.6 cm high, ribbed, with cross slots), a 6.1 cm pad for the BMW 3, 4 and 5 Series and a square 7.5 cm pad with a 10 mm pinch weld slot.
How to choose a rubber jack pad
Measure the jack saddle and check the lifting point on the car:
- diameter – the pad must sit firmly on the saddle; 5 and 6.5 cm suit small saddles, 12.5 cm suits large workshop jack saddles,
- height – 2.5 to 4 cm; for a low car choose a lower pad so the jack with the pad fits under the sill,
- groove or slot – the pinch weld must sit in the groove (11 mm on the 5 cm pad, 10 mm on the square pad),
- car – BMW has jacking points in the sills; for the 3, 4 and 5 Series choose the 6.1 cm pad with a stud that fits the jacking point.
Only place the jack at the lifting points shown in the vehicle manual. Replace a pad at once if it is cracked, worn or soaked with oil: it loses grip and can shift on the saddle.
