Pneumatic cylinder piston for tyre changer, Ø200 mm – M18 thread, with seal set

Complete cylinder piston for a tyre changer with an outer diameter of 200 mm, featuring a central M18 thread and factory-fitted sealing rings. The radially ribbed aluminium casting operates within the pneumatic cylinder and transmits air pressure to the working rod – the machine’s full clamping force depends on its condition.

Ready for installation. The piston is supplied with seals and a guide ring already fitted – you do not need to buy a repair kit or reuse old seals. Simply screw it onto the rod and fit it into the cylinder.

Technical specifications of the tyre changer cylinder piston

Outer diameter 200 mm
Central thread M18 – thread core diameter approx. 16 mm (measured with a caliper)
Opposite-side bore 19.6 mm
Body material aluminium alloy, ribbed casting
Seals included, factory-fitted
Intended use pneumatic cylinder for a tyre changer

When should the piston in a tyre changer’s cylinder be replaced?

A worn seal allows air to leak through to the other side of the piston – the force decreases, the movement becomes ‘soft’, and the compressor kicks in more often than it should. The most common symptoms:

  • a noticeable drop in clamping force when working with a tyre,
  • slow, jerky or uneven movement of the cylinder,
  • a hissing sound of air escaping from the cylinder or the valve vent,
  • spontaneous sinking after being positioned,
  • visible wear, cracks or deformation of the old piston upon removal.
From workshop experience: before fitting a new piston, check the cylinder bore. Longitudinal scratches will destroy the new seal within a few weeks and you’ll be back to square one. Coat the seals and the inside of the cylinder with pneumatic grease – oil-based greases cause rubber to swell. Slide the piston in evenly, without skewing it, so as not to pinch the ring.

How do you choose a Ø200 mm piston with an M18 thread for your machine?

Before purchasing, compare three things with the old part: the piston’s outer diameter (it must match the cylinder’s inner diameter), the rod thread – in this case M18 – and the ring clearance. If you’re dismantling the cylinder for the first time, it’s worth checking the condition of the piston rod and the cover seal straight away; replacing everything whilst the machine is open saves you a second downtime.
